Fue la liga que más se tardó en poner una fecha para reanudar actividades y justo cuando tomaron la decisión, resulta que podría tardar mucho más tiempo porque ahora hay múltiples jugadores que se están oponiendo a que la temporada se juegue  y uno de ellos es Kyrie Irving que no quiere que regrese la NBA.

No tiene nada que ver con el tema de COVID-19.

Se esperaría que los jugadores tendrían miedo de salir a las duelas por el contagio, pero eso parece ser la última preocupación en la lista. Varios han dicho que están de acuerdo con que se reanuda la temporada, aunque eso fue antes de las protestas por la injusticia social.

En las últimas semanas, estrellas del deporte alrededor de todo el mundo han mostrado su apoyo a las manifestaciones que se han vivido por el asesinato de George Floyd y eso lucha continuará por mucho tiempo, por lo cual los jugadores de la NBA no quieren perder el enfoque.

It is to help change this whole Global agenda that has killed my family members and plagued my community for far to fucking long. Our parents and their parents parents have fought every year of their lives to keep the TRUTH about this world alive. The agenda, FREE OUR PEOPLE, because we know all this talking and protesting will get us maybe a few law changes and conversations, but at this point it’s bigger than that. It’s time we take all our Native Indigenous Black culture, business, ideas to a new place as a collective and protect it just like other cultures have done. Build our own! It’s clear White Supremacy and Corporations use us Native Indigenous Black Folk when it is beneficial for their agenda and pockets, so be aware of the truth in plain sight Family. How are we gonna break these generational curses that have been put on us purposefully to kill us and our families off? Taking our Land and Culture Back! Our Ancestors are watching and protecting us now more than ever! This is for Our Future Kids kids. We are the generation that will change this!

Que la NBA regrese desviaría la atención.

Kyrie Irving fue el primero en decir algo al respecto y aseguró que la NBA debería cancelarse esta temporada para no perder «el enfoque nacional en lucha contra la brutalidad policial y el racismo sistemático, y seguir luchando por lucha por la justicia social».

Dwight Howard de Los Angeles Lakers piensa de la misma manera. Compartió en sus redes sociales que: «El baloncesto no es necesario en este momento. Solo será una distracción. No me gustaría nada más que ganar mi primer campeonato de la NBA, pero la unidad de mi gente sería un título aún más grande».

El problema es la manera en la que se reanudará la temporada.

Los 22 equipos estarían tres meses encerrados en Orlando (Disney) y eso podría distraerles del objetivo de lograr un cambio social por la igualdad racial. Esa es la razón por la que Kyrie Irving no quiere que regrese la NBA, porque gran parte de las estrellas de la duela que son la cara de esta lucha, estarán ocupados intentando ser campeones.
